Dit is de volledige uitgave, niet als zodanig aangegeven, van de Deutsche Schulatlas. Deze uitgave bevat 51 bladzijden met kaarten. Daarnaast was er, tot 1912, een beknopte uitgave (Kleine Ausgabe) met 33 bladzijden kaarten; zie ook de vergelijkende tabel. In eerdere drukken werd de volledige uitgave aangeduid met 'Mittelstufe' en de beknopte met 'Unterstufe'.
Richard Lüddecke is overleden in 1898 maar zijn naam is aan de atlas verbonden gebleven. De atlas is verder bewerkt door Hermann Haack.
Veel kaarten uit deze atlas zijn later gebruikt in de Thüringer Schulatlas (1926-1937) van Hermann Haack.

Band

De atlas heeft een donkerblauwe linnen band (26 × 29,5 cm, B × H). Op de voorkant daarvan staan de titel, de namen van de auteurs en de uitgever. Door het gebruik van zwarte letters zijn ze moeilijk te onderscheiden van de blauwe achtergrond.

Inhoud

Op het schutblad voorin staat de legenda van de kaarten. Daarna komen de titelpagina en de inhoudsopgave. Vervolgens zijn er de 51 bladzijden met kaarten, dubbelzijdig bedrukt en soms met een kaart op twee bladzijden: zie de inhoudsopgave. De laatste kaart staat op het schutblad achterin.

De atlas begint met 3 bladzijden 'algemene' kaarten: kaartschalen en voorstelling van bergen, karakteristieke landschappen. Daarna zijn er 10 bladzijden met kaarten van Duitsland, Zwitserland en de Alpen. Vervolgens komen 12 bladzijden met kaarten van de Europese landen. Daarna komen in 18 bladzijden de werelddelen en de Duitse koloniën aan de orde. Tenslotte zijn er 7 bladzijden met, vooral thematische, kaarten van de wereld, en als laatste is er een kaart met de Aarde als hemellichaam.

De kaarten zijn vervaardigd in kleurenlithografie. De kaarten van de landen van Europa zijn meestal 'natuurkundig' gekleurd: hoogtekleuring met arcering voor bergen. Enkele kaarten (Duitsland en deelkaarten) hebben een staatkundige kleuring. Van de overzichtskaarten van de werelddelen is er zowel een natuurkundige als een staatkundige versie. De deelkaarten van de werelddelen zijn meestal natuurkundig gekleurd. Er is gebruik gemaakt van een beperkt aantal schalen – zie de lijst van kaarten, bijkaarten en schaal.

Op de kaarten staat bovenaan links steeds "Deutscher Schulatlas" en rechts het bladnummer – twee nummers als de kaart twee bladzijden beslaat. Onderaan de kaarten staat soms de kaartprojectie en verder een schaalstok, de tekst "Gotha: Justus Perthes" en de schaal.

Uitgaven

Van de 7e druk bestaan in ieder geval uitgaven uit de jaren 1911, 1912, 1914 (dit exemplaar) en 1915. Een uitgave uit 1913 is onzeker.

Vergelijking met de 5e druk

Vergeleken met de 5e druk is de atlas nauwelijks veranderd. De grenswijzigingen op de Balkan en in Afrika zijn op extra kaartjes gegeven die mee ingebonden zijn.

  This is the comprehensive edition, not indicated as such, of the Deutsche Schulatlas. This edition contains 51 map pages. Until 1912 there was also a concise edition (Kleine Ausgabe) with 33 map pages; see the comparison table. In earlier editions the comprehensive edition was indicated as 'Mittelstufe' and the concise one as 'Unterstufe'.
- Richard Lüddecke died in 1898 but he remains to be mentioned as the first author. The actual editing was done by Hermann Haack.
- Many maps from this atlas were also used for the Thüringer Schulatlas (1926-1937) by Hermann Haack.
Binding
- The atlas has a dark blue cloth binding (26 × 29,5 cm, B × H). Its front cover mentions the title, the names of the authors and the publisher. The use of black characters makes them hard to distinguish from the blue background.
Contents
- The front endpaper contains the key to map symbols. Thereafter are the title page and the table of contents. Next are the 51 map pages, printed on both sides with sometimes a double page map: see the table of contents. The last map is on the rear endpaper.
- First in the atlas are 3 pages with maps on 'general subjects': map scales and representation of mountains, typical surface shapes. Thereafter are 10 pages of maps of Germany, Switzerland and the Alps. Next are 12 map pages for the European countries, followed by 18 pages for the continents and the German colonies. In the end are 7 pages with maps of the world, mostly thematic, and a map of the earth as an astronomical object.
- The maps have been produced in color lithography. The maps of the European countries are mainly colored 'physically': elevation colors with hachuring for mountains. Some maps (Germany and regional maps) have a political coloring. The general maps of the continents are given in both physical and political versions. The regional maps are mostly colored physically. Only a few different scales have been used – see the list of maps, inset maps and scale.
- In the upper margin is on the left the text "Deutscher Schulatlas" and on the right the sheet number – two numbers for a double page map. In the bottom margin are mentioned the map projection (sometimes), a linear scale, the text "Gotha: Justus Perthes" and the scale.
Printings
- The 7th edition was with certainty printed in the years 1911, 1912, 1914 (this copy) and 1915. The existence of a 1913 edition is uncertain.
In comparison with the 5th edition
- Compared with the 5th edition the atlas has hardly changed. The border changes on the Balkans and in Africa have been indicated on (bound in) additional maps.
