- Dit is de eerste en enige druk – niet als zodanig aangegeven – van deze schoolatlas voor de bovenbouw. Daarnaast was er ook een atlas voor de onderbouw. Beide atlassen zijn, voor zover ik heb kunnen nagaan, alleen verschenen in de jaren 1913, 1914 en 1915
- Deze atlassen zijn een coproductie van de uitgeverijen Justus Perthes in Gotha en Ferdinand Hirt in Breslau (nu Wrocław in Polen). Justus Perthes had een reputatie op het gebied van (school)atlassen. Ferdinand Hirt was uitgever van de veel gebruikte aardrijkskundemethode 'E. von Seydlitzsche Geographie'. De samenwerking tussen beide uitgeverijen is blijkbaar na 1915 beëindigd.
- Hermann Haack (1872-1966) was onder andere redacteur van verschillende schoolatlassen van Justus Perthes. Hij was ook hoofdredacteur van de 10e druk (1925-1945) van Stielers Hand-Atlas.
- Ernst v. Seydlitz-Kurzbach (1784-1849) was de auteur van de – later – naar hem genoemde aardrijkskundemethode. Vanaf de 3e druk (1832) werd die uitgegeven door Ferdinand Hirt. Er verschenen ook vertalingen in het Nederlands en het Italiaans. Zie voor de details de biografie.
- De titel van de atlas lijkt een samenwerking tussen Hermann Haack en Ernst von Seydlitz te suggereren maar dat is, gezien hun levensjaren, onmogelijk.
Band
De atlas heeft een groene 'calico' (gedrukt katoenen) band van 21 × 29 cm (B × H). Op de voorkant staat de titel en verder het vignet en de naam van de uitgever Justus Perthes. De titel staat ook op de rug. Aan de binnenkant staat voorin de legenda en achterin reclame voor 'E. v. Seydlitz: Geographie' en 'Haack-von Seydlitz: Atlanten'.
Inhoud
De atlas heeft een titelpagina en een voorwoord van 3 bladzijden. Daarna zijn er 5 bladzijden met de inhoudsopgave, een trefwoordenregister van 10 bladzijden en een namenregister van 19 bladzijden. Tenslotte zijn er de 56 kaartbladen, enkelzijdig bedrukt in kleurenlithografie, met op de buitenkant de naam van het kaartblad en een lijst van de bijkaarten.
Er zijn vier afdelingen kaarten: Midden-Europa (16 kaarten), de andere Europese landen (13), de andere werelddelen (15) en 'algemene geografie' (12); zie voor de details de inhoudsopgave. De eerste drie afdelingen bevatten grotendeels 'natuurkundige' kaarten met hoogtekleuring en arcering voor het reliëf. Daarnaast zijn er staatkundige kaarten en thematische kaarten. Het aantal bijkaarten, vaak van omgevingen van grote steden, is groot; zie ook de lijst van kaarten, bijkaarten en schaal. De laatste afdeling 'algemene geografie' bevat thematische kaarten van de wereld op allerlei gebieden zoals geologie, klimaat, flora en fauna, bevolking, sterrenkunde.
In het voorwoord staat ook iets over de herkomst van de kaarten. De hoofdkaarten zijn vaak geïnspireerd door die in Lüddecke's Deutscher Schulatlas, waarvan Hermann Haack ook redacteur was. Veel bijkaarten, vooral die van omgevingen van grote steden, zijn met kleine aanpassingen overgenomen uit Stielers Hand-Atlas en Vogels Karte des Deutschen Reichs (een serie kaarten van Duitsland op de schaal 1:500.000). De taakverdeling tussen de uitgevers was daarbij als volgt: Justus Perthes zorgde voor het kaartmateriaal en Ferdinand Hirt had de didactische eindverantwoordelijkheid.

Voor zover bekend zijn van deze atlas alleen uitgaven verschenen in de jaren 1913, 1914 en 1915.

Gotha, Justus Perthes 1913 - This is the first and only edition – not indicated as such – of this school atlas for High Schools. There was also an atlas for Middle Schools As far as I have been able to find, both atlases were only published in the years 1913, 1914 and 1915.
- These atlases are a coproduction of the publishing companies Justus Perthes in Gotha and Ferdinand Hirt in Breslau (now Wrocław in Poland). Justus Perthes was renowned for its (school) atlases. Ferdinand Hirt was the publisher of the bestselling series of geography text books 'E. von Seydlitzsche Geographie'. The cooperation between both companies must have ended after 1915.
- Hermann Haack (1872-1966) was the editor of several school atlases from Justus Perthes. He was also the editor in chief of the 10th edition (1925-1945) of Stielers Hand-Atlas.
- Ernst v. Seydlitz-Kurzbach (1784-1849) was the author of the geography text books called after him – in later editions. Starting with the 3rd edition (1832) these were published by Ferdinand Hirt. They were also translated in Dutch and Italian. Details can be found in the biography (in German).
- The title of the atlas seems to suggest cooperation between Hermann Haack and Ernst von Seydlitz which, considering their life span, is impossible.

- Binding
- The atlas has a green calico binding measuring 21 × 29 cm (W × H). On the front cover are the title and vignette and name of the publisher Justus Perthes. The title is also printted on the spine. In the inside front cover is the key to map symbols, in the back an advertisement for 'E. v. Seydlitz: Geographie' and 'Haack-von Seydlitz: Atlanten'.
- Contents
- The atlas has a title page and a preface of 3 pages. Thereafter are 5 pages with the table of contents, a subject index of 10 pages and a name index of 19 pages. In the end are the 56 map sheets, printed on one side only in color lithography. On their outside is printed the name of the sheet and a list of inset maps.
- The maps are divided in four sections: Central Europe (16 maps), the other European countries (13), the other continents (15) and 'general geography' (12); details can be found in the table of contents. The first three sections contain mostly 'physical' maps with elevation coloring and hachuring for mountains. There are also some political and thematic maps. The number of inset maps, especially of metropolitan areas, is considerable; see also the list of maps, inset maps and scale. The last section 'general geography' consists of thematic world maps on themes like geology, climate, vegetation, fauna, population, astronomy.
- In the preface the origin of the maps is more or less revealed. The main maps are often inspired by those in Lüddecke's Deutscher Schulatlas, also edited by Hermann Haack. Many inset maps, especially those of metropolitan areas, have been derived from Stielers Hand-Atlas and Vogels Karte des Deutschen Reichs (a map series of Germany at the scale of 1:500,000) and adapted for school use. The division of tasks between both publishers was as follows: Justus Perthes provided the map material and Ferdinand Hirt the didactical justification.
- Printings
- The only printings known are dated 1913, 1914 and 1915.
